About Daniel McCabe
Daniel McCabe has worked in the energy industry since 2009, starting in energy procurement before transitioning into solar energy in 2010.
Over the last 16 years, he has developed a uniquely well-rounded understanding of the Australian energy landscape, having worked as a consultant, business development manager, project manager, strategist, and now as the driving force behind customer experience strategy at GI Energy.
Daniel’s experience spans the entire energy ecosystem — from behind-the-meter technologies like solar and battery storage, to energy procurement, peak demand management, power factor correction (PFC), tariff optimisation, and intelligent power management hardware and software. He has also worked extensively with LED lighting upgrades, EV charging, and emerging tools that help both homeowners and businesses manage energy more efficiently and affordably.
What sets Daniel apart is his holistic approach. He believes the energy transition — for both homes and businesses — should not be a one-off transaction, but a long-term, evolving relationship. GI Energy was built on that philosophy. Instead of installing a solar system, sending an invoice, and disappearing, Daniel’s goal is to help clients understand their full energy picture and support them in achieving their long-term goals.
While he is hopeful about the role of renewable energy in Australia’s future, Daniel also maintains a grounded view of the energy transition. He recognises the continued importance of fossil fuels — particularly in meeting rising demand — and believes improved efficiencies in traditional generation must go hand-in-hand with the growing adoption of solar and storage.
He often writes and speaks on the importance of balancing optimism with realism: solar and battery systems — particularly those in the 6kW to 1MW (solar) and 5kWh to 2MWh (battery) range — will be critical to enabling decentralised, reliable power. But so too will intelligent energy policy, consumer education, and respect for the complexities of the grid.
Daniel’s writing reflects what he’s learned from both the wins and the missteps in this space. He strives to offer a practical, fact-based perspective — with the caveat that while he naturally has preferences, his priority is helping people make informed, intelligent decisions, even if that doesn’t lead to a sale with GI Energy.
Above all, Daniel’s mission is to contribute meaningfully to Australia’s evolving energy story — one home, one business, and one informed conversation at a time.
